Abū's-Sanā Maḥmūd b. Rālī b. ʿAlī b. Yaḥyā al-Ṭāʾī al-Raqqī. He was from Raqqa, but had settled in Erbil. There he served as vizier to Malik Muzaffar al-Dīn. He was a literary man and a virtuous ʿālim (scholar). One of his poems is as follows: "She is slender and agile like a mare, her lines are like her figure.
The branches are soft like the bending of her body.
The spear is only like her side.
The arrow is only like the sprinkling of her eyelash.
The wine only resembles her shining teeth.
Magic is that which is hidden in her eyes.
As for beauty, only all of it shows this.
Whoever sees her only increases in wonder and madness."
