He is the author of the work al-Ansāb and other works. His lineage is as follows: Tāj al-Islām ʿAbd al-Karīm Muḥammad b. Abū al-Muẓaffar al-Mansūr ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Samʿānī al-Marwazī. He was a Shāfiʿī faqīh (jurist) and a muhaddith (hadith scholar) of great influence. He was one of the pillars and fundamentals of the religion and among the scholars who produced classification works. He traveled to various regions with the purpose of collecting ḥadīth. He listened to many ḥadīth scholars. He wrote ḥadīth by listening to 4,000 ḥadīth scholars. He wrote a supplement to the tafsīr (Qur'anic exegesis), history, genealogies, and to the history of al-Ḥāṭib al-Baghdādī. Ibn Ḥallīkān mentioned a truly large number of classification works attributed to him. One of his works is a book in which he compiled 1,000 ḥadīth. This book also discusses isnāds (chains of transmission) and matns (texts). It is indeed a beneficial book. May Allah have mercy on him.
