Ishaq b. Ibrahim b. Hashim b. Yaʿqūb al-Nahdī.
Ibn ʿAsākir said: "Abū Yaʿqūb al-Azraʿī, that is, Ishaq b. Ibrahim, is from the people of Azruʿāt. Azruʿāt is a city connected to Balqāʾ. He was among the trustworthy transmitters and among Allah's righteous servants. He traveled to various lands in order to collect hadith. He collected and transmitted hadith. A group among the most prominent figures, worshippers, and scholars of Damascus also transmitted hadith from him." Ibn ʿAsākir has transmitted some of his states and words that indicate his righteousness and his being an extraordinary person. One of his sayings is as follows:
"I asked Allah, the Exalted, to take away my sight. So I became blind. When I experienced difficulty in performing ablution, I asked Allah, the Exalted, to return my sight to me. So He returned my sight to me."
Abū Yaʿqūb al-Azraʿī passed away this year in Damascus. Ibn ʿAsākir also stated that this is authentic. He was over ninety years old at the time of his death.
