After his father Malik Saʿīd, he was given the bayʿa (allegiance) to his rule. Malik Manṣūr Qalāwūn appointed him as his atābak (guardian). Then Qalāwūn became an independent ruler and sent them to Kerek. Afterwards, he brought them back to Cairo. In the early period of his reign, Malik Ashraf Ḥalīl sent them to the town of ʿIshqerī near Istanbul. Salāmiš died there. His brother Najm al-Dīn Ḥiḍr and his family remained in that region. Salāmiš was the most handsome in appearance and the most majestic in physique among people. Many fell into fitna (discord) because of him. The Lūṭīs (those who love boys without hair) also suffered fitna because of him. Poets wrote poems about youth because of him. He was a wise, chief, majestic, and dignified person.
