Muḥammad b. Isḥāq, after the annulment of the boycott document, recounts many stories. These relate how the Quraysh took a hostile stance against the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him), and sought to alienate and incite aversion among visitors coming to Mecca for ḥajj (major pilgrimage), ʿumra (minor pilgrimage), or for other reasons, as well as among the Arab tribes, towards the Messenger of God.
As evidence, they include the manifestation of miracles at the hands of the Messenger of God, and in response, the polytheists' enmity, excesses, deceit, and schemes, which led them to deny the Messenger of God in these matters. While denying him, they claimed that the Messenger of God was a madman, a sorcerer, a soothsayer, or a fabricator. Yet Allah would accomplish His purpose.
