He ruled the Ghaznavid dynasty. His father Mahmud was also the ruler there. Masʿūd was killed by his cousin Ahmed b. Muḥammad b. Maḥmūd, his uncle's son. In response, Masʿūd's son Mawdūd took revenge on his uncle and cousin. He fought against Ahmed, his father Muḥammad, and other cousins and their family members, defeating them. He killed his uncle and cousins. Thus, he took full control of the affairs. He had no rivals left in the rulership.
Additionally, in the month of Rajab of this year, the daughter of Caliph al-Muttaqī bi-llāh passed away at the age of ninety-one in Harīmu'z-Zāhir and was buried in the Rusafah cemetery.
