His real name is Jinā al-Dīn. He was one of Sultan Salah al-Din's servants. He endowed the Ikbāliyya complexes for the Shāfiʿīs and the Ḥanafīs and turned them into madrasas. To ensure the continued existence of these madrasas, he also established a large waqf (endowment) for the Shāfiʿīs and a smaller waqf for the Ḥanafīs. One third of the waqf was in his name. Hadim Ikbal passed away this year in Jerusalem.
