He is the author of the work titled Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah (The Deed of the Day and the Night). His real name was Ḥasan b. Aḥ b. Shabīb Abū ʿAlī al-Muʿammerī. He was a ḥadīth hāfiẓ (memorizer of ḥadīth). He traveled to various cities to learn and collect ḥadīth. He took lessons and listened to ḥadīth from ḥadīth masters. He reached a group of ḥadīth hāfiẓs that included masters such as ʿAlī b. al-Madīnī and Yaḥyā b. Maʿīn. Individuals like Ibn Saʿīb, Najjād, and Jūladī also transmitted ḥadīth from him.
He was a sea in knowledge. He was among the great ḥadīth hāfiẓs. He was a truthful and steadfast person. Since he was advanced in age, having surpassed eighty, he had his teeth bound with gold wires. Initially, he was addressed by the kunyah Abū al-Qāsim, but later he came to be addressed by the kunyah Abū ʿAlī.
Bertī appointed him as the qāḍī (judge) of the city of Kasr and its dependent districts. His mother, Umm Ḥasan bint Abū Sufyān, was the wife of Muʿammer b. Rāshid, which is why he was given the nickname Muʿammerī.
Muʿammerī composed a beautiful book entitled Amal al-Yawm wa al-Laylah. He passed away on a Friday night, eleven nights before the end of the month of Muḥarram of that year.
