Abū ʿAbdillāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf ibn Muḥammad al-Berzalī al-Ishbīlī. He was among those engaged in the ʿilm al-ḥadīth (science of ḥadīth) and advanced in this field. He provided beneficial knowledge to those wishing to learn ʿilm al-ḥadīth. He taught ḥadīth in the school of Ibn ʿUrvah, then migrated to Ḥalab. He passed away in Ḥamā on the fourteenth of Ramaḍān of this year. He is the grandfather of our shaykh Ḥāfiẓ ʿĀlamuddīn ibn Qāsim ibn Muḥammad al-Berzalī. He wrote the History of Damascus as a supplement to the work of Shaykh Shihābuddīn Abū Shāmah. By the help of Almighty Allah, I also wrote a supplement to his history.
