His kunyah (teknonym) was Abū Muḥammad al-Akbarī. He listened to ḥadīth. He was a person of refinement. He had thirty rings and thirty canes. Each day of the month he would wear a different ring and use a different cane. In the second month, he would again use these objects in the same order. There was a whip hanging in his house. When asked why he hung it, he would answer: "To frighten the children."
