Abū'l-Mahāsin Yūsuf b. Rafī b. Tamīm b. ʿUtba b. Muḥammad al-Asadī. He was from Mosul. He belonged to the Shāfiʿī madhhab (legal school). He was virtuous, a man of letters, a qurrāʾ (Qurʾān reciter), and a person of esteem among rulers. He resided in Ḥalab and was appointed as its qāḍī al-quḍāt (chief judge).
