His kunyah (teknonym) is Abū'l-Faḍl. He became famous under the name Ibn Bakillānī. He heard many ḥadīths. Ḥātib al-Baghdādī also wrote down the ḥadīths he heard from him. He had good knowledge concerning ḥadīth. He was among the trustworthy rawīs (transmitters). Dāmighānī accepted his testimony. Later, he became the amīn (secretary) of Dāmighānī. Afterwards, he was appointed head of the divan of revenues. He passed away at the age of eighty-two in the month of Rajab of that year.
