His kunyah (teknonym) is Abū ʿAlī az-Zāhid. He is among the ʿābidīn (devout worshippers), the zahidīn (ascetics), and those possessing karāmah (a saintly wonder). One of the viziers entered his presence. He kissed his hand. The vizier was reproached for kissing his hand. He responded: “How could I not kiss a hand that is raised and extended only to the ʿAzīz and al-Jalīl (the Mighty and the Majestic) Allah?”
