Abū ʿAbdallāh al-Kayshghālī al-Ṭabarī. He was a Shāfiʿī faqīh (jurist). He took lessons in fiqh from Abū’l-Qāsim al-Dāriqī. He was an intelligent, virtuous, pious, and ascetic person. After the death of Shaykh Abū Ḥāmid al-Isfarāʾīnī, he taught in his mosque. Actually, this mosque was located in the Kātiʿat al-Rabīʿ neighborhood of Baghdad and belonged to ʿAbdallāh b. Mubārak. Students were treated generously in his presence. One of his students expressed his need to him. He complained about poverty and informed him that the allowance sent by his father was delayed. Hasan b. Muḥammad took this student by the hand and brought him to a merchant. He asked the merchant for a loan of fifty dinars for his student. The merchant said, “I will not give you this money unless you eat something.” They were offered various foods. After they ate these meals, he said to his slave girl, “O slave girl! Bring me some money.” He weighed the money the slave girl brought and saw that it was fifty dinars, which he then handed over to Shaykh Hasan b. Muḥammad. When they were about to leave the merchant’s place, Hasan b. Muḥammad saw that the student's complexion had changed and asked him, “What is wrong with you?” The student replied:
“O master, the love of this slave girl has filled my qalb (heart).” Immediately, Hasan b. Muḥammad took his student and returned to the merchant, saying, “We have encountered another trouble.” The merchant asked, “What is that trouble?” Hasan b. Muḥammad answered, “This faqīh student of mine has fallen in love with your slave girl.” The merchant ordered the slave girl to come to them. When she arrived, he entrusted her to the faqīh and said, “Just as your student has fallen in love with this slave girl, perhaps this slave girl has also fallen in love with your student.” Shortly afterward, the student received an allowance of six hundred dinars sent by his father. They paid the merchant’s fifty-dinar debt and also the price of the slave girl. This was through the mediation of Shaykh Hasan b. Muḥammad.
Shaykh Hasan b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbdallāh passed away in the month of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir of this year and was buried in the Bab al-Ḥarb cemetery.
