His lineage is as follows: Quṭbuddīn Abū'z-Zaqā ʿAbd al-Munʿim b. Yaḥyā b. Ibrāhīm b. ʿAlī b. Jāʿfar b. ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad b. Saʿd b. Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbdurraḥmān b. ʿAwf al-Qurashī az-Zuhrī. He had been the Khaṭīb (preacher) of Jerusalem for forty years. He was among the great personalities, the righteous, and those beloved by the people. He was a man of handsome appearance, noble dignity, and imposing presence. He issued fatwā (legal opinions) to people and after the dawn prayer, he would deliver extemporaneous tafsīr (Qur'anic exegesis) in the miḥrāb (prayer niche) from memory. He had heard many ḥadīth (Prophetic traditions). He was an eminent and virtuous person. He was born in the year 600 AH. He passed away at the age of eighty-four on the night of Tuesday, the seventh of Ramaḍān of that year.
