In this year, on the second of Muharram, Sultan Malik al-Ẓāhir mounted camels and came from the Hijaz to Damascus. People had not noticed his arrival. Suddenly, he was seen in the Meydān al-Aḥdar square of Damascus. The people were very pleased with his coming. He delighted those who went to meet him by giving gifts and presents. This was already his custom. People were amazed and astonished at his speed and the greatness of his support. Then he went to Aleppo. From Aleppo, he set out to go to Egypt and entered Egypt with the Egyptian caravan on the sixth of Muharram. This year, his wife Umm al-Malik al-Saʿīd was with him in the Hijaz. On the thirteenth of Safar, he left Egypt with his son and commanders and went to Alexandria. There he went hunting. He gave the commanders a large amount of money and robes of honor. He returned strengthened and victorious.
Also in this year, in the month of Muharram, the ruler of Marrakesh, Abū al-ʿAlā Idrīs b. ʿAbdullāh Muḥammad b. Yūsuf al-Wāṣiq, was killed. He was killed by the sons of Mirrīn, who were fighting him near Marrakesh.
On the thirteenth of Rabiʿ al-Ākhir of this year, Sultan Malik al-Ẓāhir came to Damascus with a group of soldiers. They had suffered great hardships on the road due to cold and mud. When Ibn Uḥt Zaytūn heard that he had set out from Acre to attack the Islamic army, he quickly moved against him. He found him near Acre. Ibn Uḥt Zaytūn, out of fear of him, turned back and entered Acre.
In the month of Rajab of this year, the deputies of Sultan Malik al-Ẓāhir captured the fortress of Misyaf from the Ismāʿīlīs. The Ismāʿīlī commander Sarīm Mubārak b. Riḍā fled and abandoned the fortress. The ruler of Ḥamā set a trap for him, captured him, and sent him to Sultan Malik al-Ẓāhir, who imprisoned him in the tower of a fortress in Cairo.
This year, Sultan Malik al-Ẓāhir sent railings to be placed around the chamber of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ordered that these railings be planted around the noble tomb to protect it. He also had doors made that could be opened and closed. These were taken and put in their places.
When various reports came this year that the Crusaders would attack the land of Damascus, Sultan Malik al-Ẓāhir prepared the army to fight them. Nevertheless, fearing harm from the Crusaders, he paid great attention to Alexandria. He fortified it, had bridges built there against enemy raids, and ordered the killing of the dogs there.
This year, the State of the Banū ʿAbd al-Muʾmin in the Maghreb collapsed. Its last ruler was Idrīs b. ʿAbdullāh b. Yūsuf, the ruler of Marrakesh. He was killed this year by the sons of Mirrīn.
