In this year, Sultan Abu Kalijar entered Baghdad. He ordered drums to be beaten during the five daily prayers. Previously, sultans did not have this done. Drums had been beaten only during three of the prayer times, and only for Sultan ʿAḍud al-Dawla. Drums were beaten for the caliph alone at all five prayer times. Abu Kalijar entered Baghdad in the month of Ramadan of this year. He distributed a large amount of money to the soldiers. He also sent 10,000 dinars to the caliph. He bestowed robes of honor upon the army commanders Basāsirī, Nashāwirī, and Hammām Abū Liqāʾ. The caliph gave Abu Kalijar the honorific title Muḥyī al-Dawla. By order of their rulers, the Friday sermon (khuṭba) was delivered in his name in many lands. The khuṭba was also delivered for him in Hamadan, and the authority of Tughril Beg's deputy in Hamadan ceased.
In this year, Tughril Beg appointed Abū'l-Qāsim ʿAbdallāh al-Juwaynī as his vizier. He was the first vizier he appointed.
In this year, the ruler of Egypt, Abū Naṣr Yūsuf, came to Baghdad. He was a Jew. After the death of Jirjarāʾīnī, he became a Muslim.
In this year, after the death of his uncle Murtadā, Abū Aḥmad b. ʿAdnān b. Riḍā was appointed as the naqīb (chief) of the Ṭālibids.
In this year, Abū Ṭayyib al-Ṭabarī was appointed as the judge (qāḍī) of Karkh. The judgeship of Bāb al-Tāq also remained under his responsibility. This additional duty was given to him after the death of Judge Saymarī.
In this year, the Chief of the Chiefs (Raʾīs al-Ruʾasāʾ) Abū'l-Qāsim b. Muslim examined the book called the Caliph's Dīwān. Abū'l-Qāsim held a great station (maqām) and prestige in the presence of the caliph.
In this year, none of the Iraqis went on the pilgrimage (ḥajj).
