In this year, Muḥammad b. Sulaymān, sent by the caliph al-Muktafī to fight against Hārūn b. Ḥumārawayh, entered Egypt with 10,000 warriors. Hārūn confronted him and they fought. Muḥammad b. Sulaymān defeated him. He gathered seventeen men from the Ṭulūn family, killed them, and seized their goods and properties. Thus, the Ṭulūn state in the land of Egypt came to an end. Muḥammad b. Sulaymān reported the news of the conquest to al-Muktafī by a letter.
In this year, Faḍl b. ʿAbd al-Malik al-Ḥāshimī, who had been serving as the commander of the pilgrimage (ḥajj) for previous years, led the people in pilgrimage.
