At the beginning of this year, the armies and commanders of Abū Bakr set out in various directions to fight the apostates (murtadd) in different lands. They strove to establish the foundations of Islam and to combat rebellious peoples. Eventually, the disrupted order of Islam was restored. Justice prevailed. Tranquility reigned over the Arabian Peninsula. That which was very distant became as if it were very near. A group of scholars of Sīra (the prophetic biography) and history have stated: the Battle of Yamāma occurred in the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal of this year. According to another narration, this battle took place at the end of the eleventh year of the Hijra. To reconcile these two opinions, we say: the Battle of Yamāma began at the end of the eleventh year of the Hijra and was completed in the twelfth year.

According to another transmitted narration, the battles of Juwāsa, ʿUmān, and Mahra, as well as the other incidents we have indicated, took place in the twelfth year of the Hijra. Also in this year, four rulers named Ḥamd, Maḥras, ʿAbdiya, and Mashraḥ were killed. In the "Musnad" of Imām Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal, there is a hadith indicating that these troublesome and immoral individuals were cursed. The person who killed them was Ziyād b. Labīd al-Anṣārī.
