In this year, Sharafu d-Dawla b. ʿAdud d-Dawla b. Buwayh ad-Dayʿimī passed away. His illness was severe, and due to intense pains, Sharafu d-Dawla, upon the advice of physicians, moved to the palace of Muʿizzü'd-Dawla, which had a healthier climate. In the month of Jumādá al-ʾAwwal of this year, his illness worsened and he died. He appointed his son Abū Naṣr as his heir.
The Caliph Tāʾiʾ Lillāh came by boat to offer condolences to Abū Naṣr on the death of his father. Abū Naṣr, along with the Turks and Daylamites, welcomed the caliph. Abū Naṣr kissed the ground in the caliph's presence. The other soldiers did the same. The caliph remained on his boat, and those welcoming him turned toward him and kissed the ground. The leader Abū'l-Husayn ʿAlī b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz left the caliph's side and came to Abū Naṣr, conveying the caliph's condolences for his father's death. Abū Naṣr kissed the ground a second time in the caliph's presence. The envoy Abū'l-Husayn then turned to the caliph and conveyed Abū Naṣr's thanks. He again left the caliph's side, came to Abū Naṣr, and informed him that the caliph was bidding farewell. Abū Naṣr kissed the ground a third time, and the caliph departed.
On the sixteenth of Jumādá al-ʾAwwal, Emir Abū Naṣr appeared before Caliph Tāʾiʾ Lillāh. He was accompanied by notables, ayans, qāḍīs, and emirs. The caliph sat on a raised platform. When Emir Abū Naṣr approached, the caliph bestowed upon him seven khilʿats (robes of honor). The outermost khilʿat was black. He placed a black turban on his head, a badge around his neck, and two bracelets on his hands. The chamberlains, carrying swords and belts, walked before him. Abū Naṣr kissed the ground a second time. A pulpit was brought for him, and he sat upon it. The leader Abū'l-Ḥasan read the decree appointing Abū Naṣr to his new position. A banner was presented to Caliph Tāʾiʾ, who tied its end with his hand and gave Abū Naṣr the titles Bahāʾü'd-Dawla and Ẓiyāʾü'l-Milla.
Then Abū Naṣr, accompanied by soldiers, left the caliph's palace and returned to the government house. He retained Vizier Abū Manṣūr b. Ṣāliḥ in his office and dressed him in a kaftan.
In this year, a large mosque was built in the Katiʿat Umm Jaʿfar district on the western bank of Baghdad. The story of the construction of this mosque is as follows:
A woman saw in a dream the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) praying at the site of this mosque. While praying, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) had placed his hand on a wall there. When morning came and the woman awoke, she remembered the dream and told those around her. They saw the blessed handprint of the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) on that wall. For this reason, the woman laid the foundation of a masjid there. However, she died on the same day. Sharīf Abū Aḥmad al-Mūsawī renewed that masjid and transformed it into a large mosque, and people prayed there in this year.
