Hishām b. Ismāʿīl b. Hishām b. Walīd al-Makhzūmī al-Madanī was the father-in-law of Caliph ʿAbd al-Malik b. Marwān and was appointed by him as the governor (nāʾib) of Medina. As mentioned on previous pages, he is the one who struck Saʿīd b. al-Musayyab. He later went to Damascus, where he passed away. He was the first to initiate Qur'an (Qur'ān) instruction in the mosque of Damascus. He died in the Sebi district of Damascus.
