The kunya (honorific name) of this person is Abū Zayd. He was among those taken captive at ʿAyn al-Namr. ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) purchased him in Mecca while performing the pilgrimage in the eleventh year of the Hijra. Eshlem passed away at the age of 114. He transmitted several hadiths from ʿUmar, and also narrated hadiths from other Companions (ṣaḥāba). He is the subject of many manāqib (saintly virtues and anecdotes). May Allah have mercy on him.
