I will tell you something, but do not tell it to anyone as long as I am alive. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) came and encamped at Tabuk. He stopped beside a date palm tree and said: "This is our qibla (direction of prayer)." Then he turned towards the date palm tree and performed the prayer. I was a very small child. I was running around. I came and entered between the Messenger of God and that date palm tree. The Messenger of God said: "He has cut off our prayer. May Allah cut off his effect as well." From that day to this, I have not been able to rise from my place."
Abu Dawud, through Saʿid b. ʿAbd al-ʿAziz al-Tannūhī, reports that Yazid b. Namra said: I saw a crippled man at Tabuk. He explained the reason for his lameness as follows: "I was riding a donkey. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing the prayer. I passed in front of him while on the donkey. He said: 'O Allah, cut off his effect.' After that, I was no longer able to walk."
According to another narration, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed him as follows: "He has cut off our prayer. May Allah cut off his effect as well."
