His kunya was Abū ʿAbdirraḥmān al-Shaybānī. He was an imam, a ḥāfiẓ (one who has memorized many ḥadīth), with strong ḥifẓ (memorization), and a trustworthy (ṣīqa) narrator who transmitted many ḥadīth from his father and other ḥadīth scholars. According to Ibn Munādī, there is no one who transmitted as many ḥadīth from Imam Ahmad b. Hanbal as he did. He narrated 30,000 ḥadīth from his father's work "Musnad" and 120,000 ḥadīth from his tafsīr (Qur'anic exegesis). Some of these ḥadīth he transmitted through samāʿ (listening sessions), and some through ijāza (authorization). Some of the works collecting his transmissions are: "al-Nāṣiḥ wa-l-Mansūkh, al-Muqaddam wa-l-Muʾakhkhar fī Kitāb Allāh wa-l-Tārīkh, Ḥadīth al-Sabʿa wa Karāmāt al-Qurrāʾ, al-Manāsik al-Kabīr, al-Manāsik al-Ṣaghīr, Ḥadīth al-Shuyūkh."
We always saw that our great masters testified in favor of Abdullah b. Imam Ahmad b. Hanbal. They said he knew the ḥadīth narrators, the ʿilal (hidden defects) of ḥadīth, and the names and kunyas well. They said he continued to seek ḥadīth in Iraq and other places, and that his predecessors acknowledged this in his favor. Some even excessively praised him by saying he knew more ḥadīth and heard more ḥadīth than his father.
When Abdullah fell ill, they asked him: "Where do you want to be buried?" He replied: "According to a sound ḥadīth I have in mind, a prophet is buried in Qātiya. Being buried near a prophet is more beloved to me than being buried near my father."
He passed away in the month of Jumādā al-Ākhirah of this year at the age of seventy-seven.
Coincidentally, his father also died at the same age. A large crowd attended his funeral. His funeral prayer was led by his nephew Zuhayr, and he was buried in the Bab al-Tīn cemetery. May Almighty Allah have mercy on him.

Abdullah b. Ahmad b. Saʿīd Abū Bahr al-Ribātī al-Marwazī. He was a friend of Abū Ṭurāb al-Nahshabī. Junayd al-Baghdādī praised him.
ʿUmar b. Ibrāhīm Abū Bakr al-Ḥāfiẓ. He was known as Abū al-Azān. He was a trustworthy (ṣīqa), strong in ḥifẓ, and steadfast narrator.
Muḥammad b. Ḥusayn b. Faraj Abū Maysara al-Ḥamadānī, author of the work "Musnad." He was among the famous trustworthy narrators and authors.
