Qāḍī Imām ʿIzzeddīn Abū'l-Mafāḥir -

Muḥammad b. Sharaf al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Qādir b. Afīf al-Dīn. ʿAbd al-Ḥalīk b. Ḥalīl al-Anṣārī. He was from Dimashq. He was appointed to the office of qāḍī (judge) in Dimashq twice. He was dismissed. Ibn Ḥallīkān was appointed in his place. He was again dismissed. Ibn Ḥallīkān was appointed again in his place. Then he was dismissed once more and imprisoned. After that, Bahaʾ al-Dīn b. Zakī was appointed in his place. He remained out of office until his death in his own garden on the ninth of Rabīʿ al-Awwal of that year. The funeral prayer was performed at Sukūk al-Ḥayl (the Horse Market). He was buried in the Qāsyūn cemetery. He was born in the year 628 AH. His life was of a praiseworthy nature. He was a wise and prudent person who had respect and unwavering iman (faith) towards righteous people. Ibn Balabān would go to Ibn Jifwān to listen to ḥadīth from him and then transmit it to him. After him, in the Azrāwiyya madrasa, Shaykh Zayn al-Dīn ʿUmar b. Makkī b. Marḥal taught. Shaykh Zayn al-Dīn had previously been the deputy of Bayt al-Māl (the public treasury). His son Muḥyiddīn Aḥmad taught at the Imādiyya madrasa and at the Kilāsa zawiya of Dimashq. Then, the aforementioned son Aḥmad passed away on Wednesday, the eighth of Rajab of this year. In the Imādiyya and Dimāshqiyya madrasas, Shaykh Zayn al-Dīn b. Fāriqī taught on behalf of the sons of Qāḍī ʿIzzeddīn b. Saʿīgh, namely Badr al-Dīn and ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn, as the shaykh of the dār al-ḥadīth (house of ḥadīth).
