Qāḍī Ziyā al-Shahrazūrī

Abū al-Faẓāʾil Qāsim b. Yaḥyā b. ʿAbdullāh b. Qāsim al-Shahrazūrī al-Mūsulī was the Chief Qāḍī (Qāḍī al-Qudāt) of Baghdad. He was the nephew of Kemal al-Dīn al-Shahrazūrī, who served as Chief Qāḍī of Damascus during the time of Nūr al-Dīn. Kemal al-Dīn al-Shahrazūrī had bequeathed his appointment during the time of Sultan Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn in the year 566 AH. This bequest was accepted, and Ziyā al-Shahrazūrī was appointed as Qāḍī. Later, he was dismissed from this position and replaced by Ibn Abī ʿAsrūn. He was then sent as an envoy to the rulers. Subsequently, he was appointed as Qāḍī of Mosul. After a while, he was summoned to Baghdad, where he served as Qāḍī for two years and four months. Afterwards, he requested the caliph to accept his resignation. The caliph, who loved him greatly, did not accept his resignation. His wife, Sitt al-Mulūk, petitioned the caliph's mother. She was a woman highly esteemed by the caliph's mother. Upon his wife's request, Ziyā al-Shahrazūrī's resignation was accepted. He then went to Hama, where he dearly loved to serve as Qāḍī. He was reproached for this action. He was a virtuous person and a writer of beautiful poetry. He passed away in Hama in the middle of the month of Rajab of that year.
