Abū ʿAbdillāh Muḥammad b. Ṣafiyy al-Dīn Abū ʿAmr ʿUthmān b. Abī al-Ḥasan ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Anṣārī.
He belonged to the Ḥanafī madhhab. He was born in the year 653 AH. He listened to ḥadīth and pursued knowledge.
He studied the work al-Hidāya. He was a disciplined faqīh (jurist). He taught in many madrasas of Dimashq.
He served as the qāḍī (judge) of Dimashq. Later, he was offered the qāḍīship of the land of Miṣr (Egypt). He maintained his honor for a while while holding this position.
He did not accept gifts from anyone. He paid no heed to the reproaches of critics due to his judgments.
He used to say, "If Ibn Taymiyya cannot be Shaykh al-Islām, then who can?"
He asked one of his men, "Do you love Taqī al-Dīn Ibn Taymiyya?" When he received the answer "yes," he said, "By God, you love something very beautiful."
Qāḍī al-Qudāt Shams al-Dīn ibn Ḥarīrī passed away on Saturday, the fourth of Jumādā al-Ākhirah of this year. He was buried in the Qurāfah Cemetery.
May Allah have mercy on him. He had bequeathed that Qāḍī Burhān al-Dīn b. ʿAbd al-Ḥakīm be appointed in his place. His will was fulfilled.
Following this, a message was sent to Burhān al-Dīn to come to Dimashq. He came the next day and began his duty.
Upon his appointment to this position, he was bestowed a khilʿah (robe of honor).
