His epithet was Qutb al-Dīn al-Mustanṣidī. He served as vizier to the Caliph al-Mustanṣid. He was the commander-in-chief of his troops. Later, he rebelled against the Caliph. He attempted to plunder the caliphal palace. The Caliph then ascended to the roof of the palace and ordered the people to plunder Kaymaz's house, which was subsequently looted. The Caliph had issued this order after obtaining the fatwā of the fuqahāʾ (jurists). Ultimately, Kaymaz fled. He and his companions died in the desert.
