The genealogy of this individual is as follows: Mabed b. Yerbu b. Ankese b. Amir b. Mahzum. He became Muslim in the year of the conquest of Mecca. He participated in the Battle of Hunayn. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him fifty camels. His original name was "Sırm." According to another narration, his original name was Asrem. The Messenger of God gave him the name Mabed. He was among those who, under the direction of ʿUmar, renewed the walls and boundary stones of the Haram. After this, he lost his sight. ʿUmar came to visit him to offer consolation.
According to al-Waqidi, Khalifa, and others, Mabed died in Medina in the fifty-fourth year of the Hijra. There is also a narration that he died in Mecca at the age of 120. It is also said that he died at an even older age.
