His real name was Najm al-Dīn b. Ilghāzī b. Manṣūr Artuq b. Arslān b. Ilghāzī b. Sunnī b. Timurtāsh b. Ilghāzī b. Erīsī. He was a courageous ruler. He was the deputy (nāʾib) of Ḥalab appointed by Turān-Shāh b. Melik Ṣalāḥ al-Dīn and Melik Zāhir b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Zāhir b. Nāṣir. He fortified Ḥalab against the Mongols for a month. After a severe siege, he obtained the city from them through peaceful surrender. He died that year and was buried in the corridor of his house.
