Malik ʿAzīz Zāhir

He was the governor of Ḥalab. His real name was Muḥammad b. Sulṭān Malik Zāhir Qiyā-sh-Dīn Ghāzī ibn Malik Nāṣir Ṣalāḥaddīn. As is well known, Ṣalāḥaddīn was also the conqueror of al-Quds al-Sharīf. Malik ʿAzīz Zāhir, his father, and his son Nāṣir had been servants of the rulers of Ḥalab since the time of Nāṣir. Malik ʿAzīz Zāhir's mother, Ḥātūn, was the daughter of Malik ʿAdil Abū Bakr b. Ayyūb. Malik ʿAzīz was a handsome, noble, and chaste person. He died at the age of twenty-four in this year. His state was administered by Tawāshī Shihābaddīn, who was also one of his commanders. May Allah have mercy on him.

After the death of Malik ʿAzīz, his son Nāṣir Ṣalāḥaddīn Yūsuf succeeded him. The Most High Allah, free from deficiencies, knows best the truth.
