Malik Jawad Yunus b. Mamdud

Malik Jawad Yunus b. Mamdud b. ʿĀdil Abu Bakr b. Ayyub al-Malik al-Jawad. He was the eldest son of Sultan ʿĀdil. Over time, he rose in rank and eventually became sultan of Damascus after his uncle Kamil Muhammad b. ʿĀdil. He possessed a sound character. He loved righteous people. However, some of the people working at his court oppressed others, and this oppression was attributed to him. For this reason, the populace became angry with him, insulted him, and forced him to give Damascus to Malik Salih Ayyub b. Kamil in exchange for taking Sinjar and Hısn Kayfa (Hasankeyf). Afterwards, he was unable to retain these two cities either; they too slipped from his hands. Then Salih Ismaʿil threw him into the dungeon of the fortress of Azeta, and finally, in this year, he died there. In the month of Shawwal, he was buried in the Muʿazzam mausoleum located in the cemetery at the foothills of Mount Qasyun. Previously, Ibn Yağmur had also been detained alongside him. Salih Ismaʿil transferred him to the citadel of Damascus. When Salih Ayyub took possession of Damascus, he transferred him to the land of Egypt and, together with Salih Ismaʿil's vizier Amin Ghazzal, hanged him at the citadel of Cairo. For they had acted against Salih Ayyub. May Allah have mercy on Salih Ayyub. Ibn Yağmur had acted against Salih Ayyub and ultimately enabled Damascus to fall into the hands of Salih Ismaʿil. As for the vizier Amin al-Dawla, he had prevented Salih Ismaʿil from returning his son Muʿis to Salih Ayyub. Thus, Salih Ayyub took revenge on Ibn Yağmur and Vizier Amin al-Dawla in this way, and he was justified in doing so.
