Malik Muʿizz

Malik Muʿizz Izz al-Dīn Aybak al-Turknānī. He was the first ruler of the Turks. He was the eldest son of Ṣāliḥ Najm al-Dīn Ayyūb ibn Kāmil. He was a pious, chaste, conservative, and generous person. He ruled for about seven years. Then his wife Shajar al-Durr Umm Khalīl killed him. After him, his son Nūr al-Dīn ʿAlī succeeded to the throne and was given the epithet Malik al-Manṣūr. Malik al-Manṣūr's state affairs were managed by his father's slave Ṣayf al-Dīn Qutuz. After a while, Malik al-Manṣūr dismissed Ṣayf al-Dīn and became an independent ruler. This continued for about a year. He received the epithet Muẓaffar. He defeated the Tatars in the region of ʿAyn Jālūt. We have detailed all these events in the previous sections.
