On the second of Dhu al-Hijjah, a Sunday, an emir arrived from the land of Egypt. He bore the appointment decree for the deputyship (na'ib) of Damascus. This arriving Emir was Sayf al-Dīn Mencük. He had been appointed to the deputyship of Sughd. On the following day, that is, the day of Arafah, he set out from Dār al-Saʿāda towards Sughd, heading to the Mizze plain. He spent the Eid on the Mizze plain. Then he proceeded on the road to Sughd. Many among the troublemakers, drinkers, and others were greatly pleased at his departure from their midst. In the letter, he appointed ʿAlī al-Mardānī as deputy over the emirs, commanding them to become accustomed to him, to obey him, to show respect, and to receive him with praise and gratitude. Emir Shihāb al-Dīn b. Subḥ also came from the deputyship of Sughd and descended to his mansion outside the city near Shāmiyyat al-Barrāniyya. On the twenty-first of Dhu al-Hijjah, a Saturday, the post arrived in Damascus, reporting that the chief of the chamberlains, Taydmīr al-Ismāʿīlī, had been exiled to Ḥamā, rendered unemployed and powerless, and was obliged to reside in the kitchen quarters there. Allah knows best.
