Mubarak b. Ali

Mubarak b. Ali b. Husayn Abu Sa'd al-Mahramī. He listened to hadith. He studied the fiqh (jurisprudence) of the Hanbali madhhab (school of law). He engaged in debate. He issued fatwas and gave lessons. He collected books to a degree never before seen. He served as a deputy judge (qāḍī nāʾib). He was a person whose judgments were correct, whose dealings were good, and whose conduct was pleasant. He had a madrasa built at Bab al-Azaj, which belonged to ʿAbd al-Qadir al-Jilī al-Hanbali. Later, Mubarak b. Ali was dismissed from the judgeship and sentenced to a large monetary fine. This incident occurred in the year 511 of the Hijra. Afterwards, he himself died in the month of Muharram of that year. He was buried next to the grave of Abu Bakr al-Khallal, beside the grave of Ahmad b. Hanbal.
