He was a mudarris (professor) at the Nizamiya. He studied fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) with Ibn Khal. He attained esteem and prominence in the eyes of the Caliph and the people. His beautiful handwriting became proverbial. I have mentioned him in my work entitled Tabaqāt al-Shāfiʿiyya.
