Muhammad b. Ahmed b. Abu'l-Fadl al-Mahānī was among the Shāfiʿī imams. He studied fiqh lessons from the Imām al-Harāmayn and others. For the pursuit of ḥadīth studies, he undertook various journeys. He taught and issued fatwā. He participated in debates. In this year, having surpassed ninety years of age, he passed away. He was buried in the village of Mahān, affiliated with the city of Merv.

He was among the righteous rulers. He was gentle, dignified, resolute, and steadfast. On account of his death, a condolence gathering was held for three days. May Allah forgive him. May He pardon his sins.
