Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Ibrāhīm b. Gaylān b. ʿAbdillāh b. Gaylān b. Ḥalīm b. Gaylān. He was the brother of Ṭālib al-Bezzār. He transmitted ḥadīth from a community. He is the last person to transmit ḥadīth from Abū Bakr al-Shāfn. He was sincere, truthful, pious, righteous, and although advanced in age, he had a strong nafs (the lower self). He had 1000 dinars. Every day he would empty these dinars into his garment, turn them over in his hand, and then put them back in place.
Al-Dāraquṭnī compiled a work entitled al-Jazāʾ al-Gaylāniyyāt consisting of the ḥadīth he transmitted, which we also heard from him. Muḥammad b. Aḥmad died on a Monday, the sixth of Shawwāl of this year, at the age of ninety-four. It is also said that he reached the age of one hundred at his death. Allah knows best.
