Muḥammad b. ʿAlī

His kunyah (teknonym) is Abū ʿAbdillāh al-Hāshimī. He was from Dimashq (Damascus) and served as a khāṭīb (orator). I believe that the Ḥārat al-Khāṭīb district on the Bāb al-Ṣaghīr side of Dimashq is attributed to him. He was a khāṭīb in Dimashq during the time of the Ikhshīdids. He was young, handsome-faced, well-built, and of mature character. He passed away on the 27th of Rabīʿ al-Awwal in this year, on a Friday. The funeral was attended by the sultanic deputy and an innumerable multitude of people. He was buried in the Bāb al-Ṣaghīr cemetery. Ibn ʿAsākir has related thus.
