His kunyah was Abū Khālid and he served as the qāḍī (judge) of Mosul. His laqab was al-Jamāl al-Dīn al-Shahrizūrī. He belonged to the Shāfiʿī madhhab. The scribe ʿImād praised him and transmitted this poem:
“Proofs were presented for the affirmation of the ṣifāt (attributes).
The leaders of those who denied this had their backs broken.
When the signs of Allah's freedom from deficiencies came,
Those who held the view of tashbīh (anthropomorphism) and tamthīl (representation) were defeated,
The truth is that we too have reached this right understanding
by means of the Qur'an and ḥadīth evidences.
Whoever does not follow the imams in the sharia,
Excessive deviation and ignorance cast him out of the right path.”
