His kunyah (teknonym) is Abū ʿAbdillāh. He is from Jūrqān. He was among the ʿālim (scholars), zahid (ascetics), and ʿābid (devout worshippers). He engaged in munāẓara (debate) with Abū Bakr al-Rāzī, and he taught in the region of Qāṭiʿat al-Rabīʿ. Towards the end of his life, he suffered a paralysis, and when he passed away, he was buried next to Abū Ḥanīfa.
