Muhiddin Abdullah b. Safīyyuddīn Ibrāhīm b. Marzūk. According to Abū Shāma, he passed away in this year, on the twenty-fourth of the month of Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, in his house adjacent to the Nūriyya madrasa in Damascus. May the Exalted Allah have mercy upon him.

This house of his was turned into a madrasa for the Shāfiʿīs. Later on,

this house, which became the Necībiyya endowment, was endowed by Emir Jamāl al-Dīn Akkuş al-Najībī. May Allah accept this good deed of his. We also resided there. May Allah grant us the great salvation and unite us with the eternal abode of Paradise, āmin.

The father of Jamāl al-Dīn al-Najībī, Safīyyuddīn, was the vizier of Malik al-Ashraf. Apart from his properties, household goods, and merchandise, he possessed 600,000 gold dinars. His father passed away in Egypt in the year 659 of the Hijra and was buried in the Muqaṭṭam cemetery.

Abū Shāma said: News also reached us this month that Fakhr ʿUthmān al-Miṣrī, who was famous by the name ʿAyn al-Ghayn, died in Egypt.

On the eighteenth of the month of Dhū al-Ḥijja of this year, Shams al-Wabbār al-Muṣilī passed away. He had acquired knowledge of literature and for a time served as preacher at the Mezze Mosque. Regarding himself, he recited to me the following poem about dyeing gray hair with henna:

"Since the day white streaks were drawn upon my temples,

He and I became like two souls in one body, and I never broke the pact.

When old age came to me and separated us,

I thought it was a sword, so I sheathed it with henna."

This year, Hülaguhan summoned to his presence Sulaymān b. Amīr al-Aqrabānī, known as Zayn al-Ḥafīẓī, and said to him, "Your treachery has been established in my sight." This deluded person, during the arrival of the Tatars under the command of Hülaguhan to Damascus and other Islamic lands, had collaborated with the Tatars against the Muslims, caused them suffering, and informed the Tatars of the Muslims' vulnerabilities. Because of this, various hardships and afflictions befell the Muslims.

"Thus do We make some of the wrongdoers allies of others." (al-Anʿām, 129).

If someone helps a wrongdoer, Allah the Exalted will then set that wrongdoer upon his helper. Allah the Exalted takes retribution from the wrongdoer through another wrongdoer. Then He takes vengeance upon all the wrongdoers. We seek refuge in Allah from His vengeance, wrath, punishment, and from evil servants, and we ask Him for well-being.
