He was from the tribe of Banū Māzin b. Najjār. He had suffered a head wound, his tongue had been severed, and his mind was weakened. He engaged in much trade. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the following advice: "When you engage in a transaction with someone, say: 'There is no deception.' Then, for every item you purchase, you have the right of option (mukhayyar) for three days."

Al-Shāfiʿī said: "This hadith establishes that, for every item you purchase, whether the condition is stipulated or not, the right of option for three days is affirmed."
