He was called Tāj al-Ulā al-Ḥusaynī. He met Ibn Dihya. It is said that Dihya descended from al-Kalbī's lineage. However, Dihya al-Kalbī had no children. Ibn Dihya stated in his work Masāʾid al-Muṣīliyya that he lied. According to Ibn al-ʿAṣīr's statement, Nessābe al-Kalbī died in the month of Muḥarram that year.

His real name was ʿAlī b. Aḥmad b. Mukbil. He was from Mosul. He listened to ḥadīth. He was the greatest medical scholar of his time. He has a fine classified work on medicine. He was a person of good morals who gave much charity.
