Ḥakam b. Hishām al-Saqafī narrated that Rabīʿ b. Hirāsh al-ʿAbsī said the following:
"My brother Rabīʿ b. Hirāsh fell ill. I treated him. However, he later passed away. After washing and shrouding him, we took him to his grave. As we were carrying him to the grave, he threw off the covering that was over him, and then said:
- Peace be upon you (as-salāmu ʿalaykum), he said. We replied:
- And peace be upon you (wa ʿalaykumu s-salām). Have you returned to the world again? we asked. He then
gave the following answer:
- Yes. After leaving you, I arrived in the presence of my Lord. He received me with ease and delight. My Lord was not angry. Then He clothed me in garments of green silk. If I had asked Him for permission to give you glad tidings, He would have granted me this authority. The situation is as you see. Be upright, draw near to your Lord. Give glad tidings, do not cause aversion."
After saying these words, he became like a pebble that falls into water."
