He was a Companion (ṣaḥāba) of great dignity. He participated in the Battle of Uhud and subsequent expeditions. He was also present at the Battle of Ṣiffīn alongside ʿAlī. He engaged in partnerships with farmers. He passed away just after reaching the age of eighty-seven. He transmitted sound hadith. During the Battle of Uhud, an arrow struck his shoulder blade. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the choice to either pull out the arrowhead from his shoulder blade or leave it as it was, and in that case, he would testify in his favor on the Day of Resurrection. He chose to leave the arrowhead in his shoulder blade and preferred that the Messenger of God testify in his favor on the Day of Resurrection. That very year, his wound flared up again, and he died as a result. May Allah have mercy on him.
