Abū Jaʿfar Manṣūr b. Mustarshid. His father had appointed him as heir, then wished to remove him from this position. However, he was not able to do so. He did not betray him. When his father was killed on the seventeenth of Dhu al-Ḥijjah in this year, on a Thursday, at the gate of Marāgha, the notables and the people pledged allegiance to him for the caliphate. In Baghdad, sermons were delivered in his name from the pulpits. At that time, he was a man with children. He was fair-skinned and of pleasant complexion. On the day of ʿArafah of this year, the body of his father Mustarshid was brought. A large number of people attended the funeral, causing a crowd. The next morning, the people went out to perform the Eid prayer with intense sorrow.
