The genealogy of this person is as follows: Rukāne b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz b. Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib al-Qurashī. The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) wrestled with him and threw him to the ground; he was a very strong man. As we have mentioned in the section on the proofs of prophethood, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) defeating him is a miracle. This person became Muslim in the year of the conquest of Mecca. There is also a narration that he had become Muslim earlier in Mecca. Allah knows best the truth of the matter.
