Ibn Jarir said: In this year, after his son Mahdi returned from Khurasan, Mansur began the construction of the city of Rusafe for him. Rusafe is on the eastern side of Baghdad. He had a wall and a moat built for it. He also prepared a square and a garden, and then brought water there from the Mahdi canal.
In this year, Mansur renewed the pledge of allegiance (bayʿa) for his own caliphate, for the succession of his son Mahdi after him, and for the succession of Isa b. Musa after that. The commanders and the elite came and gave their bayʿa. They began to kiss the hands of Mansur and his son Mahdi, but for Isa b. Musa, they only held his hand without kissing it.
Waqidi said: In this year, Caliph Mansur appointed Ma'an b. Za'ida as governor of Sijistan.
In this year, Muhammad b. Ibrahim b. Muhammad b. Ali, the governor of Mecca and Ta'if, led the people in the Hajj. The governor of Medina was Hasan b. Zayd, the governor of Kufa was Muhammad b. Sulayman, the governor of Basra was Jabir b. Zayd al-Kilabi, the governor of Egypt was Yazid b. Hatim, the governor of Khurasan was Hamid b. Qahtaba, and the governor of Sijistan was Ma'an b. Za'ida. In this year, Abd al-Wahhab b. Ibrahim b. Muhammad went on a military expedition (ghazwa) to Anatolia.
Among the notable figures who died this year were Hanzala b. Abi Sufyan, Abdullah b. Awn, and Muhammad b. Ishaq b. Yasar. Muhammad b. Ishaq was the one who compiled the sira (biography) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and made it into a work, establishing it as a science that people followed. This knowledge became a source of pride; people polish their own hearts with it. In this field, everyone is like the children of Muhammad b. Ishaq. Indeed, Imam Shafi'i and other imams have said as much.
