These were a group composed of a little more than ten horsemen who came to Medina. They found the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering a sermon on the minbar (pulpit). They sat down without giving the greeting of peace. The Messenger of God asked them:
– Are you Muslims? – Yes."
– Then why did you not give the greeting of peace? Upon this, they stood up and said:
– As-salāmu ʿalayka ayyuhā n-nabiyyu wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuhu (Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings), thus giving the greeting. The Messenger of God then said:
– And peace be upon you; sit down. They sat down and asked the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) about the times of prayer.
